How to check shutter count on a Sony camera

If you're buying or selling a used Sony camera, checking the shutter count is one of the best ways to understand how much the camera has been used. The shutter count, also known as actuation count, tells you how many photos the camera has taken, which gives a rough idea of its wear and remaining lifespan.

Unlike some brands, Sony does not display the shutter count directly in the camera settings. Instead, the information is stored in the image metadata, or EXIF data, of photos taken with the camera.

  1. Take a photo using your camera.
  2. Upload the original image file, JPG or ARW, into the tool above.
  3. The shutter count will be extracted automatically from the metadata.

Our tool reads the EXIF data directly in your browser, so your file is never uploaded or stored anywhere. It is a quick, private, and reliable way to check your Sony camera's shutter count.

Add an original camera file to get started.
