How to convert image files in your browser

Need a JPG version of a WEBP image, a PNG for a transparent graphic, or a different format for a website? Use the image converter to create a new version of your file without installing another app. Choose the format accepted by the destination, then review the result before replacing your original.

  1. Add your PNG, JPG, WEBP or AVIF images.
  2. Choose the output format from the available options.
  3. Adjust the quality setting where the selected format supports it.
  4. Select the convert button, then review the results and download your files.

Choosing an output format

  • JPG: useful for photographs and destinations that require a familiar image format. This converter places transparent areas onto a white background when exporting JPG.
  • PNG: useful for transparent artwork, screenshots and graphics where crisp edges matter. PNG export does not use the quality slider.
  • WEBP: useful for website images where the destination accepts it, with support for transparency.
  • AVIF: another option for supported workflows. Export availability depends on your browser; use WEBP, JPG or PNG if AVIF export is unavailable.

Example: converting WEBP to JPG

Add the WEBP image, choose JPG and start with the default quality setting. Convert it, then inspect the downloaded image for detail and any background changes. If the original contains transparency you need to keep, choose PNG or a supported transparent output instead of JPG.

Image conversion questions

Will converting an image always make it smaller?

No. Output size depends on the original image, chosen format and quality setting. A conversion can produce a larger file. If meeting a specific size limit is the priority, use the Image Compressor & Resizer.

Does converting JPG to PNG restore lost detail?

No. A new format cannot recover detail already lost through compression or resizing. PNG can store the decoded image without another lossy encoding step, but it does not recreate missing information.

Can I keep a transparent background?

Choose an output that supports transparency, such as PNG or WEBP. JPG cannot retain it and this tool uses white behind transparent areas. Converting an image that already has a solid background will not remove that background.

Why can I open an AVIF image but not export one?

Reading and creating a format are separate browser capabilities. Your browser may display AVIF images while lacking the export support this tool needs. If conversion reports that AVIF export is unsupported, choose WEBP, JPG or PNG.

Will the conversion preserve animation and photo metadata?

Treat this as a still-image converter. Do not rely on it to preserve animation, EXIF metadata or the original colour-profile information. Keep the original file if those details matter to your workflow.

Are my images sent to a server?

No. Image conversion takes place in your browser, and your selected files do not need to be uploaded to 27tools. You can download the converted versions when processing is complete.
